Govt establishes police stations along A-32 road

The Government’s program of opening police stations in liberated
areas prior to resettling the displaced persons is progressing
satisfactorily, said DIG Balasuriya addressing the public at the
inauguration of the Mulankavil Police Station and ASP’s Office on the
Mannar-Pooneryn Road.
The first such police station to be opened was at Silavatura and
subsequently police stations were opened at Madu, Vedithalathivu and
Illuppukachchcai, he further said.
Next month a police station will be opened at Naachchikudah, followed
by a police station and an ASP office in Pooneryn in May, he added. The
program of opening police stations along the A 32 Mannar-Pooneryn Road
will be completed by June, 2009. Subsequently new police stations will
be opened along the A-9 Road too.
The DIG said that the Police department will open new stations at
Elephant Pass, Palai and Paranthan once it gets clearance from the Army.
This will be followed by establishing police stations in Mulaitivu
district, he said.
Senior DIG Kingsley Ekanayake, ASP Vanni Nandana Munasinghe, Mannar
SP Wasantha Wickremasinghe, HQI Sunil Jayamaha and a large number of
police officers were present. |
