Govt establishes police stations along A-32 road

The Government’s program of opening police stations in liberated areas prior to resettling the displaced persons is progressing satisfactorily, said DIG Balasuriya addressing the public at the inauguration of the Mulankavil Police Station and ASP’s Office on the Mannar-Pooneryn Road.

The first such police station to be opened was at Silavatura and subsequently police stations were opened at Madu, Vedithalathivu and Illuppukachchcai, he further said.

Next month a police station will be opened at Naachchikudah, followed by a police station and an ASP office in Pooneryn in May, he added. The program of opening police stations along the A 32 Mannar-Pooneryn Road will be completed by June, 2009. Subsequently new police stations will be opened along the A-9 Road too.

The DIG said that the Police department will open new stations at Elephant Pass, Palai and Paranthan once it gets clearance from the Army. This will be followed by establishing police stations in Mulaitivu district, he said.

Senior DIG Kingsley Ekanayake, ASP Vanni Nandana Munasinghe, Mannar SP Wasantha Wickremasinghe, HQI Sunil Jayamaha and a large number of police officers were present.
