Obama: No easy way out for crisis
Worst in the last 80 years:
US: US President Barack Obama reiterated on Saturday that it won’t be
easy to solve the country’s economic crisis, the worst in the last 80
years.
“From the day I assumed power, I knew that solving this crisis would
not be an easy task to be accomplished overnight,” said Obama in his
customary Saturday radio broadcast address.
We will continue facing tough days, he warned. He referred to the
unemployment rate of 8.1 percent for February in the United States,
released by the Labor Department as the highest in the last 25 years.
Obama recalled that his government inherited a budget deficit of $1.3
trillion, and an irresponsible, unsustainable budget procedure.
For years, Washington and Wall Street led a deceitful accounting to
disguise the real cost of programs, he said. Obama’s budget, published
last month, includes a 10-year reserve fund of $634 billion to help pay
health reform. On Monday, the New York Times described his budget as
ambitious in any economy, much more in the United States.
