Dudley Senanayake MV clinch WPRFU Development Trophy
Dudley Senanayake MV, Colombo 5 clinched the Western Province Rugby
Football Union (WPRFU) Development Trophy in grand style by beating the
formidable Hindu College, Colombo 4 by 40 points (5 goals, 1 try) to 5
(1 try) in the final played at Hindu College grounds on 7th March.
This was the curtain raiser of WPRFU tournaments for 2009.
The first try was planted by the Hindu College skipper S. Sajanthran
followed by three superb tries from skipper of Dudley Senanayaka D. N.
Vithanage.
During lemons the score was 21 points to 5 in favour of Dudley
Senanayake MV.
After the turn around three more tries were planted by Dudley
Senanayake MV’s speedy three quarters at regular intervals.
More than 190 participants from 16 rugby development schools from
Western Province participated.
The chief guest was Wimal Senanayake, President of WPRFU, while Dr.
T. Muthukumaraswamy (Principal, Hindu College), Rizly Illyas (Deputy
President, WPRFU), Roshan Deen (Secretary, WPRFU) and Shamrath Fernando
(Chairman, WPRFU Development) also graced the occasion.

Cup: Dudley Senanayake MV, Colombo 5 beat Hindu College Colombo 4 by
40 points to 5. Plate: Piyaratana MV, Padukka beat Seethawaka National
School 25 points to nil. Bowl: Lalith Athulathmudali College beat
Dharmaloka MV, Kelaniya 15 points to nil and Shield: President’s
College, Kotte beat Sri Sanghabodhi MV, Nittambuwa 31 points to nil. |
