Human activities, climatic changes cause natural disasters
Human activities as well as climatic changes have been found
responsible for natural disasters as floods, draughts, hurricanes, soil
erosion and spell of sea water, the National Disaster Management Centre
said.
Its statistics say that floods and draughts account for 97.7 per cent
of the natural disasters whilst landslides, epidemics and fire registers
a 2.3 per cent damage rate. The climatic changes cause a direct impact
on the water table and the likelihood of escalation of natural disasters
in future cannot be disregarded, the centre stressed. Further, the long
and short term effect of the disasters result in epidemics, heavy rains,
flash floods and rise in sea water levels.
Climatic changes also have an adverse effect in our agriculture as
well. |
