Boost for agriculture from Egypt
Agriculture Development and Agrarian Services Minister Maithripala
Sirisena made an official tour in Egypt to discuss a host of issues
concerning agriculture of both countries.
The Minister made a preliminary round of discussion with his Egyptian
counterpart Amen Abaza on matters relating to the signing of a
Memorandum of Understanding to develop relationships in the agricultural
field of the two countries. Agricultural Development Director in Egypt
Kirithith was also present.
Minister Sirisena also met Dr. Fareed Abuhadid, Agricultural Research
Institute Director in Egypt and reached an agreement to train Sri
Lankans in the area of new agricultural technology in Egypt.
They also agreed to exchange scientific know-how in relevant field.
The Sri Lankan delegation led by the Minister also met the Governor
of Alexandria region and exchanged news on agricultural matters. The
Governor praised the progress achieved in Sri Lanka under the Api Wawamu
Rata Nagamu program.
The delegation also visited a farm and a cannery in Egypt. These
visits were highly fruitful and beneficial to the country, Minister
Sirisena said.
The Minister also met Sri Lankans employed in garment factories in
Egypt and looked into their welfare matters.
The delegation included Director General of Agriculture Dr. C.
Kudagamage, Additional Secretary to the Ministry (Project) R. Ratnayake
and Co-ordinating Secretary Chaminda Sirimalwatte. |
