There wouldn't have been a war today in this country if the three
languages Sinhala, Tamil and English were made official languages, said
the Minister of Posts and Telecommunication Mahinda Wijesekera.
He said we should work according to the teachings of the Buddha and
when all sections of the people are treated equally there wouldn't be
conflicts and then there would be prosperity and peace in this country.
Wijesekera was speaking from the Chair at a meeting of
representatives of the SLFP branch organisations in 101 Grama Seva
Divisions of the Kamburupitiya, Thihagoda and Kirinda, Puhulwella
Pradeshiya Sabha areas. The meeting was held at the Kamburupitiya
Restaurant hall.
He said that a solution had to be found for the problems of the Tamil
speaking people and for this, some sort of devolution of power was
needed and this cannot be solved only by the bullet. At a time when the
war is nearing end we should all support President Mahinda Rajapaksa to
bring about peace and economic freedom for this country.
The Minister said we should be with a party that could work for the
development of the village and also the country and it is useless to
remain in a political party which had been defeated ten or fifteen times
continuously. Many UNPers disgusted with the party had now joined hands
with the Government.
Reggie Wellappili Leader of the Opposition of the Kamburupitiya PS
said that he had been in the UNP for nearly 15 years but he had not been
able to get any work done for the welfare of the people.
The Chairman Kamburupitiya PS Chandana Siribaddana, Nimal Yapa,
former PS Member Duminda Puspakumara, PS Member Gamini Mallikarachchi
and PS Member C. Jayasinghe also spoke. |
