Boost for herbal crops

The Indigenous Medicine Ministry will cultivate herbal crops on short and long term basis under the village herbal cultivation project.

Herbal medicinal crops are facing extinction and crops essential for the production of herbal medicine and of economic value such as Kiratha, Katuwelbatu, Malitha, Bebila, Ginger and Aratta will be cultivated in this herbal villages.

Short supply of gingelly oil has severely affected the production of herbal medicine. Herbal Farming Company Limited Chairman Nalin Attanayake said with the objective of resolving this problem, 300 herbal farmers will be employed to cultivate gingelly in 1,000 acres.
