Level I officiating course on April 4-5
Sri Lanka Tennis Association will be conducting a Level I officiating
course on the 4th and 5th of April at the SLTA premises.
The course, is so structured to enhance the knowledge in all aspects
of umpiring and is approved by the International Tennis Federation. The
course will be conducted by Ishara Seneviratne, a white badge umpire.
The main aim of this course is, to focus on sports personnel, school
leavers who would like to do something different - a stepping stone for
those who wish to pursue umpiring as a career and, is not restricted to
only tennis players.
The observation is that, there are many ways to be involved in tennis
and one of them is to be a referee or an umpire. Getting involved in
these areas starts with an introductory course, to give you an insight
in to the various roles of an umpire or referee. This no doubt could get
you onto the pathway to becoming either a referee or an umpire. A case
in point is, Asitha Attygalle, who is the only Silver Badge umpire and
referee and currently in the pool of umpires and referees of the
Australian Open. He started his career by successfully completing a
similar course such as this.
All those interested in following the envisaged course are requested
to submit their applications on forms available at the SLTA before March
16.
ITF certificates will be issued to successful candidates, who with
time will be assigned to officiate as umpires for tournaments conducted
by SLTA. RD |
