SLRCS provides relief to IDPs
The Sri Lanka Red Cross Society (SLRCS) continues with its relief
distribution efforts in centers in Vavuniya where Internally Displaced
Persons are currently accommodated.
Four hundred Non-Food Relief item packs made available by the SLRCS
Ampara branch were sent to Vavuniya SLRCS branch on February 28.
SLRCS had earlier distributed 500 packs of relief including milk
powder, biscuits, bottled water, cloths and hygiene kits, bed covers,
towels, soap, toothpaste and brushes, plates, cups and baby kits.
Two water bowsers have been provided by the SLRCS Galle and
Hambantota branches with a capacity of 16,000 and 6,000 litres for the
distribution of water to IDPs.
In addition, the SLRCS has sent 20 water tanks with a capacity of
2,000 litres each obtained from its Kurunegala branch to Vavuniya to be
installed at various places for the benefit of IDPs.
Three ambulances with volunteers assigned to hospitals in Vavuniya
continue to work round the clock.
The improvement of infrastructure at the Vavuniya Government hospital
with Red Cross funding is also in progress.
Fifty water-sealed toilets have been installed at these locations and
another 50 are being added. |
