Information Department news now on Mobitel

The Information Department yesterday tied up with Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel to provide news alerts and special SMS to mobitel subscribers. The first SMS was sent by Media and Information Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa.

The Memorandum of Understanding was signed by Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel Chairperson Lesha de Silva Chandrasena and Information Director Anusha Palpita witnessed by Media and Information Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa, Media Minister Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena and Ministry Secretary P. Dissanayake.

Information with regard to the Government's development drive, breaking news and important events and news in Government institutions will be disseminated to Mobitel subscribers by this service.

Palpita said the Department will provide breaking news and other relevant news and election results to Mobitel subscribers in a reliable manner. Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel in partnership with the Information Department succeeded in disseminating latest election results via SMS during the recently concluded North Western and Central Provincial election.

Mobitel subscribers can subscribe to the Information Department news alert service by typing the word REG and sending it to 2255. A monthly subscription of Rs.30 will be charged from the subscriber.
