Funeral of Senior State Counsel today
Senior State Counsel of the Attorney General's Department Dulip
Jayakody died under tragic circumstances. His cremation will take place
at the Kasagahawatta cemetery Gampaha at 4.00 p.m. today.
Jayakody was a dedicated legal counsel who served the Attorney
General's Dept. for fourteen years. Duleep, described by his colleagues
in the AG's Department as a "meticulous and hardworking officer" was
reputed for his professionalism.
He was engaged in criminal prosecutions in various parts of the
country and specialized in the conduct of criminal prosecutions relating
to violations of financial laws of Sri Lanka.
He joined the AG's Department on 15.02.1995 and was appointed as
State Counsel in 1996. He was promoted as Senior State Counsel in 2005.
He was a member of the team of lawyers representing the Official Bar
before the Presidential Commission of Inquiry appointed to Investigate
and Inquire into Serious Violations of Human Rights and played a keyrole
in examining important and sensitive witnesses testifying before the
Commission.
He was also a consultant to the Central Environmental Authority. An
old boy of Royal College, Colombo he leaves behind his wife Mayanthi and
two daughters.
