In the wake of the terror attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team by
unidentified gunmen when the team members were being driven by coach to
the Lahore cricket grounds yesterday morning, huge sighs of relief swept
Sri Lanka on hearing that all players were safe after reports that six
of them had been injured in an incident that shocked the entire
cricketing world, the first such in cricketing history.
As initial reports reached the cricket infectious country around 9.45
a.m. of the attack as lovers of the game were preparing to view the
third day's play on television, sheer shock and concern for the Sri
Lanka cricket team engulfed the entire country.
CEO of Sri Lanka Cricket Duleep Mendis said immediate measures were
being taken to fly the team back to Sri Lanka, and assured parents and
everyone that all the players were safe.
"Only Samaraweera and Tharanga Paranavithana had suffered bigger
injuries than the rest who have received scratches," Mendis said.
