Gampaha receives mega boost

The Government spent over Rs. 8,060 million for infrastructure
development activities in the Gampaha district, Gampaha District
Secretary P.A. Abeysekera said.
Abeysekera added that significant development has been taken place
after introducing several projects coming under the Gama Neguma, Maga
Neguma and Api Wawamu Rata Nagamu master development programs.
He was speaking at a meeting organised to explain the annual progress
achieved in the Gampaha district, recently.
About 135 km of roads have been concreted and transport facilities
for the 1.6 million people of the district has been improved, Abeysekera
stated.
Highlighting the development in the irrigation sector of the
district, Abeysekera said 91 small scale irrigation projects have been
completed and more than 182,000 people will benefit from the projects.
About 2,500 acres of fallow lands in the district have been
re-cultivated during last year, he said.
Explaining the sanitary facilities provided throughout the district,
Abeysekera said about 12,000 families benefited by the services launched
under the Gama Neguma development drive.
He said seven electricity projects have been launched and around
19,000 received electricity last year.
Eight welfare programs have been carried out in the district.
Over 100 families benefited from these programs. Financial allocation
made by the Government for these projects is Rs. 24,100 million and Rs.
3,657 million have been allocated by the Gama Neguma for special
projects.
While Rs.1,093 million have been received during last year and about
Rs. 89 million was allocated from the decentralized budget of the
respective Ministers and Parliamentarians of the district.
