Inland fishery training centre at Kala Wewa

The National Inland Fishery and Aquaculture Training Centre (NIFATC)
constructed at a cost of Rs. 25 million near the Kala Wewa in the
Anuradhapura district has been completed, said project Director,
Jayantha Chandrasoma.
The entire project was financed by the Asian Development Bank in
collaboration with the Government. The training centre was established
under the Aquatic Resources Development and Quality Promotion Project
coming under the Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Ministry.
Facilities with state-of-the-art technology in aquaculture for egg
hatchery, laboratory facilities, ponds for fish breeding, auditorium,
lecture halls, hostel facilities for 50 trainees and a cafeteria are
also part of the project.
The centre will provide practical, facilities for theory courses and
research breeding sites for fingerlings.
NIFATC hopes to conduct training programs for fish breeders, those
engaged in the aquaculture industry and university students.
