FMLN Candidate Heads Electoral Preferences
Salvador: The presidential candidate of the Salvadoran Farabundo
Marti National Liberation Front (FMLN), Mauricio Funes, is still at the
head of the vote intentions with a wide advantage over his contender, as
revealed by a survey Wednesday.
The poll, carried out by Vox Latina, grants the FMLN candidate a
punctuation of 48.6 percent, compared to 28.5 percent for Rodrigo Avila,
of the Republican Nationalist Alliance (ARENA), the party in the power
for 20 years now. "People believe that there should have a change," said
Emilio Arroyave, a man from the entity that did the survey, and he also
explained that in the sample, a voting simulation was carried out and
for this purpose, each person was given a similar sheet of paper to that
for the day of the elections.
According to Arroyave, the dirty campaign and fear have affected the
Salvadoran population and there is still 20 percent with absolutely no
knowledge on who to choose.
The consultation to 1,200 people was made between February 8 to 13
with the house mode, and its error margin is of 3.7 percent.
Also, the population was asked on if the elections were now, for who
they would vote and the result was 63 percent for Funes and 37 for
Avila.
The presidential elections will take place on March 15, when 4.2
million voters will decide among the change, represented by the FMLN
candidate, or the continuation of the rightwing government of ARENA.
