Nugawela Central another outright

Nugawela Central College registered the second consecutive outright victory when they scored a thrilling 3 wickets win over St. Aloysius College, Ratnapura in their Lakbima Trophy inter school cricket match played at Nugawela recently.

Batting first the visitors were restricted to a modest 121 in 31.2 overs with D.D. Gayashan (3/27) and S.R. Wijenayake (3/32) being the most successful bowlers for the home team.

Home team too did not find run making easy and they were restricted to 147 all out in 47 overs. P. Naveen bowled best to capture 5 wickets for 63 runs with T. Lakshan helping him with the figures of 3/35.

The visitors fared a little better in the second innings and scored 152 in 41 overs with S. Dharmarathna scoring a hard hit 57.

Once again D.D. Gayashan was among the wickets with the figures of 4/35 with S.N. Rajaguru playing the supporting role by capturing 2 for 82.

Chasing a victory target of 127 to win, the home team had to go through some anxious moment, before reaching 127 for 7 wickets to register an outright win. K.L. Rankoth held the innings together with a solid halt century (SS) with D.D. Gayashan adding the finishing touches with 27 n.o. T. Laksan bowled his heart out to capture 5/27 for the visitors but could not prevent the home team registering a close win.

Scores:

St. Aloysius College 121 all out in 31.2 overs (A.S. Kapuge 35, L.D. Silva 10, N. Samarakoon 12 S.R. Wijenayake 3/32, D.D. Gayashan 3/27, S.N. Rajaguru 2/24) and 152 all out in 41 overs (A. Dilan 19, A.S. Kapuge 16, S. Dharmarathna 57, S.N. Rajaguru 2/82, D.D. Gayashan 4/35).

Nugawela Central College - 147 all out in 47 overs (J.B. Bandara 21, D.D. Gayashan 18, S.N. Rajaguru 46, K. Gallella 19, P. Naveen 5/63, T. Lakshman 3/35) and 127 for 7 wickets in 32.1 (K.L. Rankoth 55, S.P.S. Amunugama 17, D.D. Gayashan 27 n.o., S. Suganda 2/30, T. Lakshan 5.27).
