Formation of Sports Confederation
With a view to develop sports in the mercantile sector, a Mercantile
Sports Confederation is to be formed, said the convenor Ashley de Abrew,
President of the Mercantile Athletic Federation. According to him, all
firms affiliated to the MAF are eligible to join the new confederation.
The confederation hopes to help all affiliated associations in
finding their requirements to improve their standards and also to
develop the talents of athletes through discussion and many other ways.
These also could produce more athletes from the mercantile sector to
enter the national level to represent the country. It also hopes to find
new talents from rural areas and helps them to reach a high standard in
their respective events.
Abrew further states that the confederation will find new ways to
find sponsors whenever the sportsmen and women require the same.
He requests interested parties to send in entries to Ashley de Abrew,
President MAF, 93/5, Temple Road, Maharagama or Nishantha Wickramage,
President, Mercantile Rugby Association, 107/D2, Arlington Grove,
Kalalgoda, Pannipitiya. The above-named could be contacted on 0777734589
or 0773121500.
