Tamil Union books berth in final
Tamil Union overcame strong NCC outfit by 36 runs in the semi final
to enter the final of the Premier Limited over tournament at the SSC
ground yesterday.
NCC after winning the toss invited Tamil Union to take first lease of
the wicket from which they made the maximum to reach good looking total
0f 258 for the loss of eight wckets in their allotted 50 overs.
Sachithra Serasinghe came up with a fine half to boost the total. There
were few valuable contributions too that came towards them through the
bats of Gihan Rupesinghe 37, Gihan de Silva 36, Isuru Udana 49 n.o., M.
Pushpakumara 20. Lasith Malinga bowled his best to capture three
wickets, while Upul Chandana too grabbed the same number of wickets
conceding 52 runs.
Chasing this big score opener Upul Tharanga made afine start for his
side and went on to make the highest score 84. Other batsmen who made
fair contibutions were Kanchana Gunewardene 20, M Bandara 37, Akalank
Ganegama 19, and C. Wijesuriya 19.
Jeevan Mendis ripped through the batting line up of NCC taking 4
wickets, while he had the support coming from M. Perera and Isuru Udana
who had two wickets each to bundle out the NCC for 223.
This victory by the Tamil Union will see them take on Bloomfield C &
AC in the final scheduled for March 4 at the NCC ground.
