Acting Minister
Minister of Nation Building and Estate Infrastructure Development S.M.
Chandrasena has been appointed by President Mahinda Rajapaksa as acting
Minister of Supplementary Crops Development in the absence of the
Minister Dharmadasa Banda who is undergoing medical treatment abroad.
Appointed SLFP Organiser for Galle District
President Mahinda Rajapaksa has appointed his Co-ordinating Secretary
Sajith Vas Gunawardena as the SLFP Organiser for the Galle District.
Vas Gunawardena has contributed extensively in the Maga Neguma
program since its inception.
Sajith Vas Gunawardena is the son of A. De Vas Gunawardena, former
Chairman BOI, Lotteries Board and Lanka Puthra Bank. He is an old boy of
Royal College, Colombo.
Blood donation
A blood donation campaign organised by the Senasuma Sahana Foundation
to bestow merit on President Mahinda Rajapaksa and the heroic Armed
Forces will be held on February 28 and March 1 at 9 am at the Danister
de Silva Complex (Close to Dematagoda Flyover). The blood donation
campaign will also bestow merit on our ancient kings, freedom fighters
and those affected by the 2004 tsunami.
Book launch
The translation of the book Hugo Chavez and the Bolivian Revolution
by Lilananda Gammarachchi will be presented to Ambassador of Cuba in Sri
Lankan Nirsia Guevara Castro at a ceremonial launch held at the Mahaweli
Centre at 3 pm on February 27. Leader of the National Freedom Front led
by Wimal Weerawansa MP will participate with a lecture on the text.
Pirith
Students following the Higher National Diploma in Engineering Studies
have organised an all night Pirith ceremony at their Hostel at Colombo
15 to invoke blessings on the Security Forces.
AGM
The 61st AGM of the Sri Lanka Cancer Society will be held today,
February 26 at the Cancer Society Head Quarters, 37/25, Bullers Lane,
Colombo 7 at 5 p.m. Chief Justice Sarath N. Silva will be the chief
guest.
Distribution of religious books
A religious books and Holy Quran distribution ceremony will be held
on Saturday, February 28 at the Sri Lanka Islamic Centre, Rajapokuna
Mawatha, Maligawatte NHS, Colombo 10 at 9 a.m.
Book launch, lecture
The Muslim Education Progressive Society (MEPS) will release a book
titled "Solvadai Selkirom Urukke Ketpederukku" and hold a lecture on
Colombo Muslims Education and Sinhala - Muslim Unity on Sunday March 1
at 9.30 a.m. at the Abdul Gaffoor Hall, Zahira College Colombo.
Mawlood program
The Al Masjidul Bardriyeen Nawala Jummah Mosque will be conducting
Subhana Mawlood recitals after Maghrib prayers for 12 consecutive days
starting from February 26 to March 9. The recitals will commemorate the
Holy Prophet Muhammad (Sal) and will conclude with Salawath.
After the recitals of Mawlood daily sermons (religious lectures) will
be held by Moulavies including Imams Al Haj M.T. Hilurudeen and Al Haj
A.B.M. Mubarak.
Seminar
A training seminar on "Safety in chemical and microbiological
laboratories" will be conducted by Institute of Chemistry on March 27
from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Hotel Janaki.
New hostel
The Islamic Centre for the Physically Handicapped, Doolmala,
Thihariya will open the new ladies hostel on Sunday, March 1 at 11 a.m.
at the Islamic Centre. |
