More than 80 injured, nine killed in Schiphol crash
More than 80 people were injured and nine killed when a Turkish
Airlines plane crashed Wednesday morning while trying to land at an
Amsterdam airport, a Dutch official said.
"More than 80 people were taken to about 11 hospitals," emergency
services spokeswoman Ineke van der Zande told a press conference at
Schiphol Airport.
"Six of them are critically wounded; we cannot tell at this stage
whether they will survive. Twenty-five were seriously wounded, and 24
suffered light injuries."
The nature of the injuries of the others had yet to be determined,
Van der Zande said.
Mayor Michel Bezuijen of the Haarlemmermeer municipality, under which
the Schiphol Airport falls, said three of the nine killed were crew
members, their bodies still trapped in the cockpit of the ill-fated
Boeing.
There had been seven crew on board.
All 127 passengers had been removed from the wreckage."At this
moment, we are doing an analysis of the passenger list to confirm the
nationalities," said Bezuijen. Istanbul governor Muammer Guler said
earlier the death toll had been revised upwards to 10.
