The United States of American Government and Medical Teams International has donated Rs. five million worth interagency emergency health kits including the drugs and medical equipment to upgrading the health facilities of Internally Displaced persons from uncleared areas in Mullaithivu.

Those drugs and medical equipment are delivered to Vavunia and Trincomalee districts and it was handed over by US Ambassador in Sri Lanka, Robert'O Blake to Minister Healthcare and Nutrition Nimal Siripala de Silva at the Health Ministry premises recently.

The Interagency Emergency Health Kit (IEHK) substitutes the New Emergency Health Kit.

In collaboration with various relief agencies the World Health Organization has redesigned this set of pharmaceuticals and medical items, covering the basic needs of 10,000 people for 03 months in emergency situation.

The IEHK consists of a Basic Unit and a supplementary unit. The basic unit consists of 10 cartons with the same content, serving 1,000 people each and is to be used as an emergency kit with the most essential products.

The supplementary unit is made up by a drug module, an equipment module and a renewable module.

The main difference with the IEHK is the inclusion of more suitable malaria medicines and diagnosis.

These products are separately available as anti malaria module for the basic unit and for the supplementary drugs unit.
