Troops foil Nanthikadal infiltration

Troops of the 59 Division foiled an LTTE attempt to infiltrate the
Nanthikadal lagoon in Mullaitivu yesterday morning inflicting heavy
damages to the Tiger cadres.
Military spokesman Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara said heavy fighting
erupted as troops of 1 Sinha Regiment (1SR), and 9 Field Engineers
observed a group of LTTE cadres attempting to infiltrate the army
forward boundary east of the Nanthikadal lagoon. “Troops launching heavy
fire obstructed the LTTE infiltration inflicting heavy casualties to the
Tiger cadres,” he added.
Following a fierce battle that erupted, troops recovered 13 bodies of
LTTE cadres along with a large number of weapons, suicide jackets,
pistols fitted with silencers, T-56 riffles and maps.
Troops attached to the 59 Division is engaged in operations in the
narrow stretch of land, on the eastern bank of Nanthikadal lagoon at
present. |
