Ranaviru village in Ipologama
Anuradhapura Additional District group corr.
Construction work on the Ipologama Rana Jayapura Ranaviru Gammanaya
will be completed in November 2009.
The village will consist of 1,500 housing units.
The Housing Project Director Brigadier L.M. Tennakoon told the Daily
News that already 410 houses have been completed. One housing unit built
in 10 perches consists of three bed-rooms, living room, kitchen and a
bathroom. Each house costs Rs. 1.4 million.
The American Embassy in Sri Lanka handed over Rs. 5 million
worth shipment of drugs and medical equipment to the Sri

Book launch
The Vishva Niketan International Peace and Meditation Centre will
launch ‘Lessons of the Lotus’ (Sinhala-Tamil-English versions) and
‘Poems of Awakening’ by Ven. Yatirawana Wimala Thera (a travelling
Buddhist monk) and to the first Dhamma talk - ‘Inner Peace: Outer Peace’
celebrating the 10th anniversary of Vishva Niketan International Peace
and Meditation Centre at 4.00 p.m. today at the BMICH Committee Room A.
Sports meet
The annual inter-house sports meet of the Primary School of St.
Peter’s College will be held on Friday, February 27 commencing 1.00 p.m.
at the College grounds.
Look out for new moon
A conference of the learned ulemas, theologians, katheebs and
trustees of Jumma mosques, representativse of the All Ceylon
Jemmiyathuyl Ulema, Sharia Council, Thakkiyas, Zaviyas, Anjuman
Faiz-E-Raza (Memon Community), and the Department of Muslim Religious
and Cultural Affairs will be held under the auspicious of the Colombo
Grand Mosque at the Madrasathul Hameediah Hall on Thursday, February 26,
immediately after the Salath-Ul-Maghrib, to decide on the beginning of
the Islamic month of Rab-unil-Awwal Hijri 1430 on the evidence of
sighting the New Moon in any part of Sri Lanka.
The Colombo Grand Mosque appeals to the Muslim Public to look out for
the new moon on February 26 immediately after Maghrib (6.23 p.m.). If
the new moon is sighted, kindly inform the Colombo Grand Mosque with
reliable witnesses.
AGM
The annual general meeting and the get-together of Colombo branch of
Anuradhapura Central College Past Pupils’ Association will be held on
March 8 (Sunday) at 247/6, Sanhinda Leisure Centre, Stanley Thilakaratne
Mawatha, Nugegoda at 10.00 a.m.
Foot care clinic
A free foot care treatment for all diabetes will be held on February
28 at Healthy Life Clinic, Colombo 3.
Program highlights include foot care demonstrations and presentations
by a foot care specialist.
SAARC parley

Sri Lanka will host the 32nd SAARC Foreign Secretaries parley in
Colombo today. Foreing Ministry Secretary Dr. Palitha Kohona will
preside today’s meeting which focusses on a wide range of issues
covering the setting up of the SAARC food bank, SAARC law, illegal
smuggling and drug trafficking and counter terrorism.
The report based on the conclusion of today’s parley would be
forwarded to the SAARC Foreign Ministers’ Conference which begins on
February 27.
Blood donation
The Development Lotteries Board has organised a blood donation
campaign at the Ruwanwella Cooperative Society tomorrow from 8 a.m. to 3
p.m. for the soldiers in action.
April Avurudu Fair
Southern Provincial Secretariat will organise an Avurudu Fair at the
Samanala sports grounds, Galle from April 9 to 12.
New stamp
The Philatelic Bureau of the Postal Department will issue a new stamp
in the denomination of Rs. 5 and a First Day Cover today to commemorate
the birth centenary of Professor F.R. Jayasuriya.
This stamp has been designed by W.K. Sanath Rohana Wickramasinghe.
The official first day cancellation of this stamp will take place at
the ‘E’ Committee Room, BMICH at 10.00 a.m. with the participation of
Posts and Telecommunications Minister Mahinda Wijesekera and Postal
Deputy Minister M.S. Sellasamy.
Local authorities take over rest houses
Local Government and Provincial Councils Minister Janaka Bandara
Tennekoon has decided to transfer the authority of 14 rest houses
functioning under the Urban Development Authority (UDA) back to Local
Authorities through a Gazette Notification.
Accordingly, 13 rest houses would be handed over to the Local
Authorities on February 20 while the Puttalam Rest House would be handed
over on April 4.
Maintenance of the rest houses will continue under the UDA. |
