Samurdhi families to receive 1,500 milch cows

Steps have been taken to distribute 1,500 hybrid milch cows to Samurdhi families in the Kurunegala and Puttalam districts of the NWP in order to increase milk production this year.

"The loan facilities to the tune of Rs. 500 million would be given to these dairy farmers to put up cattle sheds and to buy other necessary equipment needed to maintain these farms," Surgeon attached to a Livestock farm of the National Livestock Development Board in Kurunegala District, K.D. Jayasekara told the Daily News.

He added that 650 new vet. Surgeons will be recruited during this year to promote the livestock development activities and 50 educational programs on livestock management would be held in the NWP to educate farmers on proper maintenance of dairy farms to get more milk from the cows during this year.
