Facilities for Mums-to-be at welfare camps

The Healthcare and Nutrition Ministry has made arrangements to provide facilities for 750 pregnant mothers at 13 welfare camps in the North.

This is being carried out under the direction of Healthcare and Nutrition Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva. Every welfare camp has a Visiting Obstetrician and Gynecologist (VOG) while the Vavuniya Hospital has two VOGs, Ministry sources said.

Medical facilities have been provided for mothers to deliver babies at Vavuniya General Hospital, Cheddikulam Base Hospital and Puwarasankulam District Hospital. Ambulances have been allocated to transport them to these hospitals.

The Ministry has also made arrangements to allocate a special place in all 13 welfare camps for lactating mothers to breast feed their infants.
