Visa racket suspects to be charged

The Colombo Fort Magistrate and Additional District Judge Gihan
Pilapitiya was told yesterday that six suspects in the visa racket case
will be charged under the Penal Code and Immigration and Emigration Act.
State Counsel Maheshika Bakmeewewa appearing for the prosecution told
court that the six suspects would be charged under the Penal Code and
the Immigration and Emigration Act and two of the suspects will be
released on the next date.
The Judge Pilapitiya further remanded the suspects in the visa racket
case till March 11. Earlier on an application the Judge allowed one
suspect to make a confession before the Judge.
The suspects have allegedly prepared forged marriage certificates and
obtained visas from an Embassy in Colombo for a Muslim person and a
Tamil person seeking migration to the UK.
"We are also looking for a very senior sportswoman who has allegedly
been involved in this massive visa racket, CCD Director Senior SP Anura
Senanayake said.
Earlier the CCD arrested the kingpin of the visa racket who had been
remanded pending the completion of on going investigation, the CCD
Director said.
Jayantha Dias Nanayakkara, Sanjey Gamage appeared for some of the
suspects. Kingsley Hettiarachchi appeared for the complainant.
The case will be called again on March 11.
