Rs. 100 m for Galle town development

President Mahinda Rajapaksa directed the authorities to implement the Galle Town Development Project in preserving its historical heritage and pristine glory, at a special conference held at Temple Trees, recently.

The President in the Budget proposed a Rs. 100 million allocation for the project. The problems posed by the population expansion and illegal structures in the town were discussed.

The President pointed out that the optimum use of aid for development projects is a must. Without being confined to discussions alone, if steps are taken to launch practical programs, pragmatic results could be reaped in a relatively shorter span, he said.

The Galle Development Project comprises Karapitiya new shopping complex, Oroppuwatta office and shopping complex, new fish market, new bus stand and shopping complex and Kekiribokka housing complex.
