Twenty four teams for Club Rugby Sevens

Twenty four teams will take part in the second leg of the Inter-Club Rugby Sevens which will be worked off at CR and FC grounds, Longden Place on February 28 and March 1, 2009.

Defending champions Kandy SC, CR and FC, CH and FC, Air Force, Navy, Petersons and Old Zahirians will be taking part in the tournament along with Army, Havelocks and Police who were notable absentees in the first leg played at Nittawela.

The tournament is being conducted by the Interim Committee of the SLRFU and organised by the CR and FC. Kandy Sports Club which won the first leg with a runaway 40-10 win over CR and FC in the Cup Championship final will go out favourites to win the second leg too.

Last year they won both tournaments by beating Army (55-7) and Air Force (41-12) in the finals.

Led by Sri Lanka fly half Fazil Marija, Kandy will field a star studded team packed with national players - Saliya Kumara, Radhika Hettiarachchi, Mohamed Sheriff, Sanjeeva Jayasinghe, Prasad Chaturanga, Sean Wijesinghe, Sajith Saranga and Sri Lanka Sevens skipper Pradeep Liyanage.

The lads from Kandy will face a strong challenge from CR and FC, CH and FC, Air Force and Navy.
