Dehiwela- Mount Lavinia Municipal Council Deputy Mayor Dhanasiri
Amaratunga who crossed over from the UNP to the UPFA, said President
Mahinda Rajapaksa was conducting the war efficiently and this prompted
him to join the Government.
Amaratunga who was the youngest Mayor in the country in 2004-2005,
said the Dehiwela- Mount Lavinia Municipal Council became the best
municipality in the country under his administration.
“The UPFA leadership is unique that from the Head of State to the
bottom rankers are committed to lay down their lives for the
Motherland,” he told the Daily News yesterday.
He said he crossed over on his own desire and no one had forced him
to do so.
Amaratunga said a UPFA victory in Dehiwela-Mount Lavinia was certain
at the forthcoming polls.
He said he did not ask nominations from the UNP and he was supporting
the Government unconditionally.
Commenting on the UNP leadership, he said the party does not
recognize young leaders. “I have been with the UNP for many years, and
the party leaders have neglected me.
This is not so with the UPFA,” he said. “They give due credit to
everyone.”
“I am born UNPer. The late Minister Gamini Dissanayake is my guru in
politics.
I served the UNP for more than 20 years.
The UNP has not given me an opportunity to make my political future a
success,” he said. |
