Troops attached to the 57 Division operating east of Visuamadu
overran the LTTE’s ‘Radha Regiment Headquarters yesterday morning.
Addressing the media yesterday at the MCNS, Military spokesman
Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara said the Radha Regiment was in Theravilkulam,
along the A-35 Paranthan-Mullaitivu main road.
“This base was considered to be a main training and operational
facility of the LTTE. Training had been conducted especially for the
LTTE’s ‘Victor Anti Tank unit’, a sub unit of the ‘Radha Regiment’. They
were responsible for providing security to LTTE leader V. Prabakaran and
its Air Force wing,” he added.
Brigadier Nanayakkara noted that facing heavy fire from troops, LTTE
cadres fled the area without even taking their flag and equipment.
“The LTTE’s so called ‘elite regiment’ had fled leaving the dead and
a haul of weapons. The ‘Radha Regiment’ is led by a senior LTTE cadre
identified as Ratnam,” he added.
