Dengue alarm in CMC limits

An alarming number of 106 positive dengue cases have been currently reported in the Colombo City, said the Colombo Municipal Council’s Community Health Division yesterday.

A majority of them are from Mutwal, Mattakkuliya, Kimbula Ela, Applewatta, Sammanthranapura and the environs.

On the instructions of Senior Presidential Advisor Basil Rajapaksa MP, the Municipal Solid Waste and Drainage Departments have launched a joint operation to combat dengue with community participation, Municipal Commissioner Bhadrani Jayawardena said.

The operation launched on February 1 is continued every weekend.

The initial program on February 1 covered Mutwal and Mattakkuliya areas while Sammanthranapura and Applewatta would be covered today (February 7) and Kimbula Ela on February 14.

The Sarvodaya Movement, People’s Bank and the people themselves have been sponsoring these programmes by providing food, drinks and other assistance to the volunteers.
