Sports complex opening today

The first stage of the proposed regional sports complex at Navinna, Maharagama built under 'Mahinda Chintana' will be commissioned today at 3 p.m. under the patronage of Urban and Sacred Area Development Minister Dinesh Gunawardane.

The estimated cost of the whole project is Rs. 200 million and it will be completed in three stages.

The 1st stage will consist of a junior cricket pitch, a tennis court, a volleyball court and a netball court. The cost of the 1st stage is Rs. 50 million. The extent of the complex is 17 acres.

To mark the occasion there will a disabled volleyball match, Softball cricket match and an exhibition volleyball match between Navy and Army.

Once this sports complex is completed it will be second only to the Sugathadasa Sports complex in Colombo.
