Some more UNP and JVP supporters would join the Government enmasse on
the eve of the present PC polls, said Minister of Rural Industries and
Self-Employment Promotion S.B Navinna at Narammala, Kalundewa.
He was addressing several meetings held at Polgahawela, Dambadeniya,
Kuliyapitiya, Nikaweratiya, Mawathagama, Panduwasnuwara and Wariyapola.
NCP Chief Minister Berty Premalal Disanayake, Minister of State
Revenue and Finance Ranjith Siyambalapitiya and Minister of Plantation
Industries D.M. Jayaratne also participated.
Minister Navinna said the forthcoming PC election is very important
for the people. Although many factions are planning secret agendas to
defeat the Government the people’s trust is with the Government. The PC
election is not only an election to appoint PC members or a Chief
Minister but to safeguard the people’s sovereignty and parliament’s
supremacy.
He said the National Freedom Front (NFF) headed by Wimal Weerawansa
MP is also contesting along with us. Today we can see UNPers and JVPers
joining the SLFP all over the country. They are not satisfied with their
party leadership.
NCP Chief Minister Berty Premalal Disanayake said Ranil is like a
deflated tyre. Whatever they may do he cannot win this race.
He said the UNP and JVP organisers of Wayamba are presenting
misleading pictures of the UPFA and sounding alarms that bread queues
will be introduced. The grateful voters shall not forget that such vast
sums had been spent on development of their areas while spending
billions on the war to defeat terrorism.
Minister of Plantation Industries D.M. Jayaratne said the Government
has allocated Rs. 427 million to be utilised in improving irrigation
facilities in the North Western Province.
He said that agricultural development has a great impact in the
country. That is why the Government has launched the program “Api Vavamu
- Rata Nagamu” (Let us grow and build the country).
Minister of State Revenue and Finance Ranjith Siyambalapitiya also
spoke.
