UPFA will achieve resounding win
Christie Fernando Chilaw special correspondent
‘The UPFA will achieve a resounding victory in the Wayamba election
through a strong organisational mechanism because the Opposition is
miserably lacking in a convincing strategy to be triumphant,’ said Susil
Premajayantha, Minister of Education.
He was speaking at a meeting held at the main UPFA Co-ordinating
office, Chilaw.
The Minister said, “In this connection it is opportune to mention
that the present Chief Minister of the Eastern province had joined the
LTTE as a child solider and he was now with the Government. So, that was
a welcome transition, due to a protracted war that continued for three
decades.
It is to be noted that within a short period, a colossal volume of
development has been expedited there. Further, the forces have gained
tremendous victories in the North to liberate the uncleared territories.
He reiterated that vast amounts of money that the UNP disbursed to
print posters and leaflets were surely in vain. The masses cannot be
duped - or even win their ballot by force. It’s only through sheer
conviction that they could win their hearts.
The UNP can hold frequent press conferences to try to win the
election. But it will only prove a futile effort in the end.
The people, in the heart of hearts, have reposed their entire
confidence and faith in the President and will vote in favour of the
UPFA which will win with a sweeping majority.
The Minister said that some attempted to defeat the budget and raised
superfluous questions about the price of oil, but all those attempts
were in vain.
The UNP Opposition leader recently queried why the price of oil could
not be brought down, if Killinochchi district was captured. But there
was evidently no logical connection with petrol and the Killinochchi
district. This was all meaningless and senseless talk.
He said if the UNP regime had come to power, we do not know how many
Government institutions would have been privatised. The country would
have plunged into deeper recession and bankruptcy.
The Minister said, “It is our bounden duty to scrupulously protect
our Motherland - and a vote for the UPFA is surely a vote for democracy,
fair play and right governance to safeguard the inalienable rights and
privileges of people, enshrined in the constitution.
Asoka Wadigamangawa, the chief UPFA organiser of the Wayamba
Province, Neomal Perera, Deputy Fisheries Minister, several
ex-provincial Ministers, ex-Provincial Council members and chairmen of
Urban Councils also spoke.
