Freedom unfurled: The grandeur of the Galle Face Green overlooking the azure sky blended with the solemn sea yesterday to witness a Nation celebrating its 61 years of Independence with colourful motorcades and troops representing all sections of the Sri Lankan military saluting the heroes who laid down their lives to achieve freedom and unity for the Motherland. President Mahinda Rajapaksa hoisted the National Flag in the presence of the Prime Minister, Ministers, the Commanders-In-Chief of the Three Armed Forces and the IGP, MPs and diplomats to symbolise the unity and territorial integrity of a Nation recovering from the scourge of terrorism.
