US,UK calls for political resolution

The United States and the United Kingdom in a joint statement on the Situation in Sri Lanka affirmed their insistence on a political resolution to this long-standing conflict, states a press release from the US Embassy.

The release adds: The time to resume political discussions is now and we will continue to work with the Tokyo Co-Chairs, the Sri Lankan Government and the UN to facilitate such a process.

US Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton and British Foreign Secretary David Miliband call on both the Government and the LTTE to agree to a temporary no fire period and welcome a statement by the Tokyo Co-Chairs (Norway, Japan, US and EU) in this regard.
