More than two million people are expected to attend the five day
exhibition at the BMICH which commenced yesterday to coincide with Sri
Lanka’s Independence Day celebrations. SriLankan is a co-sponsor of the
event.
The annual event is intended to educate the public on the
Government’s development plans, with participation from virtually every
single Government and semi-government organisation, as well as private
sector entities.
The SriLankan Airlines stall features educational and publicity
materials on various aspects of the airline, including its many
promotional offers, its frequent flyer program FlySmiLes, its leisure
arm SriLankan Holidays, and its freight handling arm SriLankan Cargo.
SriLankan Airlines closely supports the development plans of the
Government which includes supporting the expansion of all types of
export industries.
It is particularly active in developing the tourism industry, which
has traditionally been the country’s fourth highest earner of foreign
exchange and works closely with Sri Lanka Tourism and the country’s
travel and hospitality industries to promote Sri Lanka’s image in
overseas markets as a tourist destination of choice.
SriLankan recently received the highest number of awards of any
single company at the Second Annual Presidential Awards for Travel and
Tourism, winning three of the major categories that were presented.
These included “Airline of the Year”, “Best Outbound Tour Operator”, and
“Best Tourism Education and Training Effort”.
