Govi Pasala exchanging knowledge
Navaratne Bandara, Mahaweli systems corr.
Agriculturists and farmers who wish to do experiments in ‘Organic
farming’ can now exchange knowledge with the ‘Govi Pasala’ (school for
farmers) at Palugasveva, Eppaavala.
A group of old campaigners for ‘Organic Farming’ are there to welcome
those who are trying to gain a better knowledge of traditional methods
of agriculture.
The ‘Palugasveva Govi Pasala’ which is run by a volunteer methodical
activists’ committee for appropriate agricultural technologies for Sri
Lanka has a good collection of data and information in the field of
organic farming.
The founders of the ‘Govi Pasala’ had the intelligence to turn to
organic farming to protect the country’s soil and insects useful to crop
farming from the artificial fertilizers, which also swallowed the
country’s foreign money in bulk annually at a time when most of those
who now advocate an agricultural policy giving a weight to organic
farming too were looking down on traditional farming methods based on
organic farming. |
