India hands over medicines

In keeping with its commitments to assist the people affected by the conflict in northern Sri Lanka, the Government of India yesterday began the task of handing over the full consignment of medicines that it had earlier announced as forming a part of its package of assistance.

A portion of the consignment was handed over at the Ministry of Health last morning by the Deputy High Commissioner of India Vikram Misri to the Minister of Healthcare and Nutrition Nimal Siripala de Silva.

The entire consignment, valued at approximately SLR 20 million, will be handed over to Sri Lankan authorities by the end of this week.

The Government of India hopes that this modest donation will go some way towards ameliorating the suffering of the people affected by the ongoing conflict.
