German soccer Delegation arrives

A three member German delegation will arrive in the island today to attend the opening ceremony of the German - Sri Lanka Football Complex in Matara tomorrow. The funds for the project was donated by the German National team that took part in the 2004 FIFA World Cup. They decided to grant their earnings from the World Cup to develop the game in tsunami devastated areas.

The Matara football ground was completely devastated by the 2004 tsunami and the call from Football Federation went out to the world governing body FIFA and the response for the same was taken by the players of the German team. The work of the project is completed to satisfy the donors and the FIFA. The world Governing body's representative being Holgar Oberman who supervised the project.

The German delegation Jens Nowotny (Former German National Player and member of 2004 -2006 National team), Uli Voiigt (Media Director DFB - German Football Association) and Holger Oberman (Head of DFB Project,International Football expert). bp
