Royal trounce Ananda

Royal College brought an end to a 24 year long wait when they trounced arch rivals Ananda College by 94 runs in a high profile inter school under 19 cricket tournament match worked off at Ananda Mawatha.

Set to make a challenging 193 runs to win during the final session the Anandians collapsed to a disappointing 98 runs with Yasith Abeykoon and Maneesha Thanthirigoda causing most of the damage. Royal’s success had a great amount of significance because the last time they beat Ananda College was way back in 1985 under the captaincy of Heshan de Silva.

In addition this was also after 45 years that they had beaten both Ananda College and Nalanda College during the same year having last performed this feat way back in 1964 under the leadership of J. D. Wilson. Royal defeated Nalanda College two weeks ago.

Royal: 235 (Sahan Hettiarachchi 64, Kusal Perera 59, Bhanuka Rajapakse 24, Yasitha Abeykoon 23: Ruchira Herath 6 for 62, Sameera Wijesuriya 2 for 39) and 169 for 8 declared (Chalaka Bogoda 47, Haroon Mowjood 26, Sahan Hettiarachchi 24, Kusal Perera 23, Bhanuka Rajapakse 31 n.o.: Ruchira Herath 3 for 47, Sachitra Perera 2 for 37)

Thurstan force a draw

Thurstan College forced a draw to their inter-school under 19 cricket tournament match against Nalanda College worked off at Thurstan grounds in Reid Avenue.

Thurstan: 195 and 28 - 1

Isipathana College crushed Lumbini Vidyalaya by six wickets in their inter school match concluded at BRC Grounds, Havelock Park yesterday.

This is their third outright win for the season. Earlier they have beaten Mahanama College and Trinity College.

Lumbini - 115 (W. Sanjaya 32, Buddika Lakshan 21, Amila de Silva 3/15, S. Premaratne 2/10) and (A. Aslam 42, W. Sanajaya 22, A. Dimantha 3/38, D. Sulochana 3/21, S. Premaratne 2/18.)
