Bens crush Joes 8-0 enter semis

St. Benedict's College in a one sided game tranced St. Joseph's
College eight goals to nil in the lost quarter final of the schools
segment of the old Bens SC's golden Jubilee soccer tournament.
With this win St. Benedict's entered the semifinals where they will
confront Insipatana College on Sunday at St. Benedict's College ground
Play commencing at 2.00 p.m.
As expected the Kotahena boys got to the lead within a minute through
the goal scored by Asela Tharanga. Joes were stoned by this and were
under pressure from there onwards. Bens took things easy and moved the
ball well short passes which the Joes failed to put a stop.
This was mainly due to the fast that the Joes failure to confine well
as a team. Bens took the advantage out of this went on a goal hunt
scoring 4 goals in the first session of play, with the other three goals
coming through the foot of S.S.N. Madusanka (1) and George Dilan
Victoria (2) After the turn around once again the Bens went on the
attack and saw them receive a penalty in the 16th minute which was
converted by Asela Tharanga 5-0. In just 9 minutes it was Tharanga once
again who added another to his tally (3) and for Bens 6-0.
The 68th and 71 minutes saw Buddhika Sandaruwan and Ramesh Nalinda
struck for Bens to put their side in to semis with a convincing victory.
On Saturday Zahira College meet Hameed Al Hussein in the first
semifinal while in the Club section Ratnam SC take on Don Bosco SC from
Negombo at 4.00 p.m. |
