Dambulla town, environs get Rs. 5000 m facelift

Dambulla town which is located in the middle of the country, is
gaining fame as a commercial hub.
The Government has launched a massive development scheme centralizing
Dambulla town called the Maha Dambulu Development plan. Rs. 5000 million
has been allocated for the first stage of this project by the
Government.
In accordance with that, road construction activities have commenced
in the Dambulla town limits.
The main roads connecting the town area are being widened under this
program adding four road strips.
Parallel to that alternative roads are also constructed to avoid
congestion in the town.
A new railway line will also be constructed from Kurunegala to
Habarana via Dambulla. Surveying in this regard has commenced.
An administrative building complex and a multi purpose building are
coming up in the premises of the Dambulla and Galewela Pradeshiya Sabhas
at a cost of Rs. 247 million.
A new project called "Gammedda Development Scheme" has been started
under the Maha Dambulu Development Plan. In the first round
Korakahagolla and Vaya-Ulpotha villages have been selected and
development activities have begun at a cost of Rs. 18 million.
Accordingly 200 Grama Seva Divisions belonging to the Dambulla,
Galewela, Palugaswewa, Naula, Palagala and Kekirawa Divisional
Secretariat areas are to be developed. In addition Galewela, Madatugama,
Habarana-Sigiriya, Naula and Nalanda towns will be developed as
sub-towns.
The supervision of this development programme is carried out by the
Urban Development Authority. |
