Minister orders Nothern development activities

Minister of Social Services and Social Welfare and Chairman of Special Task committee Northern Province Douglus Devananda instructed officials to gradually commence work the Divisional Secretariat of Thenmarachchi under the first phase of the Developmental activities in the Northern Province.

Minister Devananda issued the above instructions following a lengthy discussion with the relevant officials recently, Ministry sources revealed.

Accordingly, the Minister sorted out the requirements, shortcomings and the development activities needed to be launched in the divisional secretariat of Thenmarachchi.

Development activities including electricity, roads, health hygienic needs, relief, resettlement of the displaced, agriculture, restoration of Hindu Kovils and community halls were also inquired into at the discussion. Minister Devananda also held a discussion with representatives of Sinnakerny '' Janashkthi'' Community organization and Anthiran in Vadukkoddai, Jaffna.

Many complaints concerning street lights facility, repairs of public wells, construction of roads and drainage systems of the area, development of Hindu Primary Schools were put forward by the participants at discussion.

Devananda having directed his attention to the above problems and shortcomings of the village community, issued the necessary instructions to the related officials for immediate actions.

The Minister promised to meet other demands within a short period of time. Minister also met the group of employees attached to the ''Thikkam'' Distillery on his recent visit to Jaffna.

A large crowed including the Divisional Secretaries of the areas, Field Officers , Grama Niladharis and representatives from voluntary organizations patrticipated at this meeting.
