Market up
The Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) saw a turnover of Rs 96 million in
mid week trading with the majority of interest coming in the form of
Lanka Cement (LCEM).
The share topped both turnover and volumes for Wednesday with revenue
of Rs 25.8 million on 2.2 million shares.
Interest in LCEM consisted of nearly a third (27%) of overall market
turnover.
The share ended the day gaining 19.5% to close at Rs 12.25. Other
notable additions to revenue came in the form of Ceylinco Insurance (Rs
8.7 million), Commercial Bank (Rs 7.6 million) and Pelwatte Sugar (Rs
3.8 million). The ASI closed on a positive note up 11 point to 1,812
(0.62%) while the liquid MPI ended down 5.3 points (-0.26%) to close at
2,010 points.
In Asian markets elsewhere indices in India and Japan recorded gains
with the Nikkei 225 up 45 points to 8,106 points while in India the
Sensex 30 Index was also up 244 points to 9,248 points
