Poverty alleviation, fighting corruption and terrorism

BAGLADESH: Banglad-eshi President Iajuddin Ahmed Sunday said poverty alleviation, elimination of corruption and terrorism, trial of war criminals and good governance would be main aims of the new government of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

“No hurdle is insurmountable for a nation, which has achieved freedom through struggle and a prolonged war of independence,” he said in an address at the opening session of the ninth parliament elected through Dec. 29 Parliament elections. The president said the present 300-member parliament which is formed through a free, fair and neutral election is the ‘ Parliament for change.’

He continued to say the new government has to devote itself to combat price hike and keep the prices of essentials within tolerable limit.

The president said the government has to alleviate poverty, establish rule of law and expedite economic growth. Moreover, he said the country has to be freed from terrorism and corruption through proper enforcement of law.
