Innovative teachers’ competition connects 40,000

The Innovative Teachers’ National Competition connected 40,000
students and teachers in the country last year and each of them spent at
least ten to fifteen minutes to get this connectivity, said Country
Manager Microsoft Sriyan de Silva Wijeyeratne.

He was addressing a gathering at a function organized at the Galadari
Hotel by the Ministry of Education to announce the winners of the 2008
competition.
Of the seven winning teachers three who won the first place in
different categories will participate in the Regional Innovative
Conference which will be held in Malaysia shortly.
Commending the efforts of the winners, Wijeyeratne said the
participation of teachers and students is vital in taking IT to the
rural community and this competition was not only to win but also to
make use of it to get the maximum benefits for the country and people.
Microsoft has signed an MoU with the Ministry of Education to train
another 8,000 teachers during the next five years. The year 2009 has
been is declared as the Year of IT and Microsoft and the Ministry has
initiated a number of steps to develop this project further.
Setting up a National College of Education for ICT teachers and 2,800
full fledged ICT laboratories islandwide are significant among them.
The project will also connect 1,700 schools through SchoolNet
providing access to educational websites with over three- million hits
by teachers and students on a daily basis. |
