Isipatana win by 55 runs

On a wicket which spun like a top, spinners revelled as Isipatana College pulled off a sensational 55 run win over Trinity College in their inter-school cricket match concluded at the Asgiriya Stadium in Kandy on Tuesday. Trinity College were set a relatively easy task of scoring 142 runs to win in 80 overs but they collapsed for 87 runs leaving their opponents winner by 55 runs shortly after lunch.

Trinity were 31 for 5 at one stage and they moved up to 78 for 5 but lost their last five wickets for just 9 runs.

Match winners for Isipatana were off-spinner Anushka Deemantha who took 4 for 41 to end up with match figures of 10 for 111. Left arm spinner Samitha Sulochana took 6 for 36 in the second innings. In fact both spinners opened the attack.

Earlier Isipatana continuing their overnight score of 105, were dismissed for 166 with skipper and left arm spinner Rushan Jaleel who opened the attack taking 7 for 55 to finish with match figures of 12 for 101. In batting too he did well to score 41 not out and 30 not out but his lion hearted attack could not save his side from this ignonimous defeat.

Isipatana College 127 and 166 (D. Warapitiya 27, Dimuthu Perera 20, Nilusha Sasanka 39, Rushan Jaleel 7 for 55).

Trinity College 151 and 87 (Kavinda Jayasuriya 29, Akila Jayasundera 18, Rushan Jaleel 30 n.o., Anushka Deemantha 4 for 41, Samitha Sulochana 6 for 36).
