Majestic wild elephant visits Minneriya Township

On 7th January a magnificent wild elephant made its appearance in the vicinity of a devale in Minneriya.

This was a pleasant surprise to both the local population and tourists. The elephant walked about in an unperturbed manner accepting the gifts of food offered to it without causing any anxiety amongst the public. People in the area are hoping this would be a regular occurrence.

This area in the Eastern province was only recently liberated by our valiant forces from the LTTE occupation.
