Historic victory celebrated

The people of Kurunegala Pradeshiya Sabha division which covers three Divisional Secretary Divisions namely Kurunegala, Mallawapitiya and Maspotha began celebrating the capture of Kilinochchi by hoisting national flags and lighting crackers just minutes after President Mahinda Rajapaksa's address to the Nation was telecast.

The Kurunegala PS rejoiced with people from all walks of life rising in support of the Armed Forces, Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa and President Mahinda Rajapaksa. People were on the streets in almost all parts of the PS division in honour of the armed forces striving to protect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of our motherland by displaying banners and shouting slogans.

Celebrations were also held at Wattegedara Kohelegedara, Talampitiya, Mathawa, Thiragama, Polugama, Mahagama and Nakolagamuwa.

Special Bodhi Poojas and christian services were held at all temple Churches and Mosques.

The chairman Patrick Karunasinghe addressing the gathering at the Mathawa junction to celebrate the great victory said that is a victory for our entire nation. It is a decisive victory over savage terrorism that was playing around with the blood, muscle and the sinews of humans.

He said it is a victory over venomous separatism that sought to divide people on grounds of race and religion.
